Stewart Cink at the Barclays

Aug 31, 2010

Stewart, this past season as THE OPEN Champion had to have been a great experience, indeed.  And though I am sure you have thoroughly enjoyed it, the extra demands on your time do tend to take their toll on your golf game.  Not only do you have less time to practice, but less energy to pour into your practice sessions as well.

On the range this past week I noticed a bit of carelessness in your alignment as you warmed up pre-round on Saturday. And I am sure it affected your ball striking that day as you dropped out of contention.

What I saw, if it is helpful, as you warmed up was: your feet and hips were aligned well left of your target and your shoulders were closed to your target line – quite a different set-up than I saw earlier in the week. From such a  position one has to strain the finish to get shots on line. This feel of the need to “guide” ones ball flights can indeed be disconcerting as we approach a course as demanding of accuracy as Ridgewood.

Your swing looks great, so just a little better attention to detail this week at the Duetsche Bank Classic  in your set-up and alignment and you should “feel target” again BEFORE you deliver your motion.  Here’s to making some putts!  Which is where I could really help your consistency.

My son Dave (who brought Amino Vital to the tour) is a big fan of yours.  He followed you all day Sunday.

We wish you the very best,

Ozzie
