Tiger, I’m sorry I missed your practice session on Saturday evening. My mole called to tell me you were on the range all alone. Though my note said I’d be there following your round, unfortunately, I had to leave to give a playing lesson.
What has always amazed me about you is your ability to teach yourself a new feel of motion so quickly. Your swing looked much better on Sunday morning on the tee than it did on Saturday when your fades were on target, but your draws weren’t ther yet. On Sunday, you had better left side shaping through the region of impact.
If you go back to the famous Tiger “stinger” shot, it was there that you maintained the best left side control of your shot shape. Your left wrist and elbow don’t break down so quickly through impact with that shot. To me, it was this left wrist and forearm rotation from impact through delivery that made Nelson, Snead (my teacher), Hogan, Nicklaus and Watson great.
I think, when you are finally working on the right stuff that your dad was absolutely right – you will be the best golfer who ever played the game.
Interestingly, this same feel will help with your putting, along with lower body control of your path and length of swing arc, which is where the very best of speed feel comes from.
All the best,
Ozzie
