The Barclays

A big congrats to Matt Kucher whose final round 66 was second only to Rory Sabbatini’s closing 64. The playoff, as so typically happens, produced two errant drives.  But the golf gods were smiling on “Kooch” as his run-up 7 iron from the left rough did a victory lap of the green prior to settling some 2 feet below the hole. Kooch has been knocking on the door all year.  It’s nice to see this very popular, fun loving player win such a big one.

Our Close But No Cigar Award this week goes to Scottish born Martin Laird who made just a ton of par saving putts this week.  I’m really not sure the cause of his 3-putt on the 72nd hole of this championship to force the playoff.  Whether his first putt was a misread of the speed or simply nerves kicking in, it was indeed a tough way to lose an event in which Martin played so courageously for four days.

Keep your chin up, Martin.  These playoffs are a four week grueling affair.  You have positined yourself well this week.  Now, that take no prisoners mentality can be put to good use – one shot at a time, one hole at a time, until the 72nd hole at Eastlake.  Good luck.
